Suchir Gupta is a first-year undergraduate student at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Data Science, and is a member of the Informal Sustainability Lab. He is interested in economics research, particularly socioeconomics and development. Suchir is working as a research assistant for Dr. Brandon Finn, as part of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program. The project aims to geolocate socioeconomic data in Agbogbloshie, Ghana, an electronic waste recycling and dump site. Suchir is working with Dr. Finn and his partners at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly and the University of Ghana to design and implement a survey in Agbogbloshie. The Agbogbloshie project is intended as a pilot for collecting data in informal settlements to understand how informality ties to sustainable development on a larger scale. This is the first geolocated socio- economic survey to take place in the informal settlement located directly adjacent to one of the world’s largest electronic waste recycling plants.

Apart from academics, Suchir is an avid sports player who likes to spend his time playing cricket, badminton, and pickleball. He is also highly fascinated by marine life and is a PADI-certified advanced scuba diver.
